What is an Eating Disorder?
An eating disorder is a preoccupation with food, weight, and body image. People may consider this as a lifestyle choice; however, they are serious illnesses that must be treated.
There are different types of eating disorders that vary due to behaviour. This can be diagnosed in an initial assessment for a tailored therapy treatment plan for each individual patient.
Research has shown that eating disorders are developed from psychological, social, genetic, and behavioural factors.
Binge-Eating- Purging- Eating Alone – Feelings of Distress and Guilt – Eating Alone to Avoid Embarrassment – Vomiting – Forced Vomiting – Use of Laxatives – Excessive Exercise – Fasting – Restricted and Controlled Eating – Intense Fear of Gaining Weight – Distorted Body Image – Self Esteem heavily based on Weight and Body Image – Denial
